A series of over 100 watercolor landscape paintings of Scotland, ranging from 4×6″ to 5×7″, begun Labor Day 2014 as part of the 100 Day Project with The Great Discontent and Elle Luna. Worked from photographs of places I hadn’t yet visited, painting each one became a way of researching the place itself – its history, its name – and finding common ground with people who knew the landscape long before I ever stood in it. Small scale was part of the point: postcards ask to be held close, almost secret, the way a picture book pulls you into another world before you’re old enough to know why. I didn’t reach Scotland until October 2017, three years after the paintings began. Some of those connections have lasted nearly a decade.
