experimental video

Experimental video work made between 2018 and 2023, most of it unresolved and still very much in process – included here because I loved making it, not because I know what comes next.

Three pieces project my paintings onto torn sheets of painter’s plastic, moved by a fan, filmed, and set to music – an early way of asking how a painting might live somewhere other than flat on a wall or under glass, and an entry point into the interactive quality I keep chasing in my installation work.

A fourth piece grew out of building the Signal installation for TEDxSalem: instead of projecting a painting, it’s light moving across the plastic forms themselves, built from air and light rather than paint.

One of the three plastic-and-projection pieces later became the seed for a new piece shown in a 2023 group show at Colonna Contemporary in Philadelphia – a five-year gap I like seeing show up. I keep circling back to mediums and ideas years later, and this is one more instance of that.
